Product Review, Coupon Code, and Green Giveaway #4 from KidsKonserve!

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

Recently,  I blogged about traces of the harmful chemical compound BPA being discovered in certain bottles manufactured by Swiss company SIGG.  Our family turned to SIGG years ago, for what we thought were safer, healthier, and more eco-friendly alternatives to dispoable water bottles, and other drink containers.  Unfortunately, choosing SIGG has now led to my four-year-old daughter having being exposed to Bisphenol-A for at least the past two-and-a-half years, and our bottles being returned to the manufacturer.  Such a disappointment (and that's an understatement).

But like I said, everything happens for a reason.  We just happened to have been contacted by Kids Konserve; a homegrown American company, started by two women who understand the importance of keeping leaching chemicals out of our children's food, and reducing lunchtime waste at the same time.

The above picture is Kids Konserve's signature lunch kit; a lovely assortment of reusable lunchtime items, featuring a recycled cotton bag, food-grade stainless steel containers, a cotton napkin, a reusable Food Kozy wrap mat, and a generous 16 oz. stainless steel drink bottle, also made of non-leaching, food-grade, recyclable stainless steel.  Kids Konserve's products are very eco-friendly, and many are even sourced from recycled items, such as plastic bottles, and even yogurt containers!  What a great way to keep even more platsic waste out of our landfills and our environment.

Kids Konserve was kind enough to send us one of their nifty Food Kozy wrap mats, and just in time to replace our now hazardous SIGGs, one of their Kids Konserve stainless steel bottles as well. When the package arrived, little Green Organic Girl immediately fell in love with them, and proudly paraded them around the house.  I'd never seen her so excited over food packaging before.  LOL! She couldn't wait to bring them to school for lunch.  The Kids Konserve stainless steel bottle is almost the exact same size and shape as one of the old SIGG bottles we returned, and it will accommodate the SIGG bottle cleaning brush that we own.  I do like the carabiner attached to the bottle top; making it easy to clip onto backpacks and lunch bags.  Alternatively, Kids Konserve also offers an interchangeable sports top lid; similar to those found in SIGG bottles.  All this, without the leaching chemicals.

Today was the first day back after the Labor Day long weekend, and we're happy to report that the Food Kozy is going to be a staple item in our household.  This generously-sized plastic mat is a breeze to use; serving double-duty as a reusable food wrap and a placemat!  Just place your food item in the middle, and follow the crease lines.  There are two nicely sized "hook-and-loop" pieces that hold the cute little packet together.  The Food Kozy easily accommodates larger sandwiches too.  Our wrap easily held together four mini bagel pizzas; Green Organic Girl's favorite lunch item.  A quick hand-washing with regular dish detergent is all that is needed to keep these clean.  They're great, not just for lunch, but for wrapping things like cheeses, meats, fruits, and veggies, too!  Our friend at Kids Konserve also reports that she's had her five mats for a year now, and they are durable and still going strong. What a wonderful way to reduce our dependency on disposable plastic baggies.  We also love the peace of mind, knowing that these Food Kozies are free of Bisphenol-A (BPA), and also phthalate-free.

Just in time for Back to School, Kids Konserve's online store is offering 25% off their Food Kozies!  Even better, place your order before 10/31/09, and use this coupon code for 15% off!

  12. My daughter's prep school needs money to build a fence around the playground. It's already taking green steps by encouraging recycling, so this would be an excellent fund raising opportunity!

  14. I'd love to try the mini stainless steel containers. I've managed to avoid plastic baggies for my Kindergartener's lunch so far, but he's used larger plastic containers which take up more room than necessary and I'd like to avoid! Thanks!
