Product Review: Dr. Hauschka's Hand Cream

I've been a long-time sufferer of dermatitis and eczema. Growing up in Southern Ontario, winters were especially horrible, with itchy, red, scaly, weepy patches of skin on the backs of my legs.

Recently, my dermatitis erupted again; this time all over my hands. My hands were cracked, chapped, bleeding, and erupting in very itchy, scaly bumps. Definitely dermatitis. I attribute it to the couple of months I took off work that I was a SAHM; too much cleaning and washing my hands every day.

I'm happy to report that after three agonizing months, my hands are finally healing, and are almost back to normal. The fix? Dr. Hauschka's Hand Cream. This is a German-made line of products, focusing on holistic health and organic, natural ingredients (no parabens that I could find in the ingredients). Considering the prescription cortisone creams prescribed by my dermatologist weren't even helping, I'm glad it was finally a botanical blend that did the trick. I was hesitant at first, as this is a $24.95 tube of cream. But, I easily pay that much for my daily facial moisturizers (if not more) and prescription copays, so $25 for a cream isn't really that outrageous, if you think about it (especially for one that actually works!).

While dermatitis isn't curable, I do plan to keep it at bay with plenty of this cream. Here is an excerpt from a review I recently posted at Drugstore.com, where I purchased this product:
Our family has switched to a greener, more organic lifestyle. We've tried to find more natural alternatives whenever possible. Growing up, everyone on my dad's side had severely dry, cracked hands from dermatitis. We had several doctors in the family, and tried all sorts of Rx creams, in addition to many popular moisturizers and hand creams. It wasn't until I recently ordered a tube of Dr. Hauschka's Hand Cream that I finally started to heal. It is an expensive product, but I was paying anywhere from $10-$30 in copays for Rx creams, and I easily spend this much on my quality facial moisturizers. A little dab of this cream goes a long way. The itching and irritation have stopped, and my hands look 90% normal again, just with a few days of use. Thank you, Dr. Hauschka!
